Saint Cecilia’s Care Home provides specialist care for up to 21 people who are living with any stage or form of dementia, as well as day care. Our care is based on the belief that people should be able to enjoy as much individual freedom and independence as possible whilst they are living with dementia.
We provide relationship-centred care where each member of staff provides care for all the residents but builds stronger bonds with a small number of residents. For those with dementia this helps create comfort and familiarity as they always have someone in particular, they trust and can relate to and go to, which is very important.
When a resident comes to our care home, they and their loved ones become part of our family and it is our pleasure and privilege to look after them all. Each resident has a carefully researched care plan, drawn up with the resident, their family and other care professionals, where relevant. This ensures that our residents get individual care based on their likes and dislikes and any physical and medical needs they have. These care plans not only give us the facts but also paint a picture of the resident so that we can get to know them and their history and enable us to provide personal, one-to-one care. That individual care is followed through on a day-to-day basis by ensuring that each resident gets a choice of food that is based upon their preferences as well as any dietary requirements and also in the way they can personalise their room with their own familiar furniture, ornaments and pictures to make it as homely as possible.
Our care is holistic and involves the whole family, so we pride ourselves on providing excellent on-going support. Help and advice to our residents’ loved ones. Relatives are welcome to visit the care home and to contact us with any requests or concerns they may have. We hold regular relatives’ meetings to keep everyone fully up to date with the latest information from the home and publish a bi-monthly newsletter. Our carers are special people with a passion to go the extra mile. It isn’t unusual to see a carer in the home on their day off if a resident needs them. We never forget that it is more than a place of work it is our residents’ home.

Attractive building with original features
Beautiful gardens with summer house and fishpond
Two bright, well-equipped and attractive lounges
Easily accessible and pleasant dining rooms
Comfortable and easily personalised rooms
Our lovely home is set in a large, attractive building which retains its original features and character both outside and in. The residents’ rooms are warm and comfortable, with many ensuite and can be filled with their own furniture, ornaments and pictures to make them more personal and homely. Saint Cecilia’s Care Home is lucky to have two light, spacious and airy lounges so that we can accommodate activities and entertainment in one and quiet time in the other. One room has a large, widescreen TV, DVD player and music centre. We also have two dedicated, pleasant and easily accessible dining rooms.
The building is well maintained throughout and regularly decorated to retain a fresh, pleasant and attractive environment. Our spotless bathrooms and toilets are adapted for ease of use and dignity.
Our most popular feature is our beautiful, enclosed garden which has a summer house, fenced fishpond and ample seating. Our residents love to walk or sit in the garden, potter with the plants, sit in the summer house or enjoy some outdoor activities or music.
At our care home we enjoy a regular programme of entertainment including games, sing-along sessions, gentle exercise and regular reminiscence activities. We also welcome visiting entertainers and enjoy regular outings, including trips out thanks to the minibuses the group owns. Some residents like to get involved, bake a cake, potter in the garden. At the same time, we also enjoy quiet time with our residents, and they particularly enjoy some one-to-one time with our staff. The home is equipped with full, safe security, including Telecare monitoring.
Maintaining dignity and a pride in our appearance is very important to the care we offer and so we have regular visits from a hairdresser, a private chiropodist, and an aromatherapist.
We mark our residents’ birthdays and enjoy parties to mark religious festivals, major sports events, royal occasions and national fundraising days.
Say hello to some of the key members of staff at our home.
Steph Harbron
Registered Manager
Happy residents, happy staff and a happy home has long been Saint Cecilia’s motto and nobody better embodies that than Care Home Registered Manager Steph Harbron.
After working in other care settings, Steph joined Saint Cecilia’s in 2017, attracted by the home’s warm, homely atmosphere. She joined as a Care Assistant and worked her way up to become manager. She loves spending time with and getting to know the residents.
“I’m not a manager who sits in his or her office all day, I like to be involved, making sure everything is getting done properly and our lovely residents are getting the best care we can provide,” she says. “In our home many people have dementia and they have different symptoms, different needs and different likes and dislike. So, it is important that we get to know each individual really well to ensure the right care is being given. It really is individual, person-centred care and you can only give that by spending quality time with the person, which is what we do here.”
Her own grandad moved into the home last year and Steph adds: “I wouldn’t have done that if I didn’t know we are delivering great care here.”
For her, a good day is when she can go home to her family knowing that she has helped make the residents happy.
“Everybody wants the very best for every resident here and no matter what, if we can make our residents happy and give them a smile, that is what makes care worthwhile.”
Zoey Savage
Care Assistant
Known for her often brightly coloured hair, care assistant Zoey Savage is loved by residents and colleagues alike for her natural compassion, patience and caring approach.
Zoey is the home’s dignity champion and our ‘go to’ for the best way to do things to preserve and enhance our residents’ dignity, independence and happiness.
She knows our residents’ care plans inside out but most importantly, takes time to get to know the residents, like members of her own family, to ensure she provides the best, most individual and person-centred care imaginable.
She says herself: “It is like I have a whole new, extra family. You get to know what they like and what they don’t like and care for them accordingly. Everybody is different, there is no one size fits all in care. Some people like to sit quietly or have a cup of tea and a chat, others want to be more active, walk out in the garden or play a game, share a book.
“Whatever they like to do, I like to give them my full attention, get on their eye level so that they know you are listening. It is about finding and understanding the right things to do and to say with every resident.
“This is their home and they have the right to enjoy the dignity and independence that that means. For me, I love providing personal care for the residents, when it is just you and them. You can have a nice conversation, just like talking to a friend, whilst you make sure they are looking and feeling at their very best. I want them to be immaculate, they deserve that and, for me, that is caring.
“I like to go home at the end of the day knowing I have done everything I can for the residents, looked after them as I would want to be looked after myself – and, hopefully, left them with a smile on their face. If they are smiling, I am smiling.”
Seena Jose
Head Chef
Seena Jose is head chef at our Care Home and her food has got some very high-profile fans.
When former politician turned television presenter Ed Balls was filming ‘Inside the Care Crisis with Ed Balls,’ he and the film crew called round to Seena’s home to sample a delicious biriyani.
“He really enjoyed it,” she says. “I was very proud.”
Seena loves her role at the home, where she has worked since 2009.
“Cooking is my passion and I love to make meals that the residents enjoy. Food is a very important part of our residents’ day and it is lovely when you see that they have enjoyed their meal and they tell you it was delicious.”
She cooks what the residents like and ask for, which is mainly classic, familiar favourites. Seena is famous for her traditional Sunday roast. But the first Saturday of every month is Indian food day, when the residents get a taste of what Seena likes to cook for her own family and they love it.
Seena used to split her time between shifts as a carer and as a cook, but the residents loved her food so much she became head chef.
She says the secret to providing great care is having a good team of colleagues around you.
“Saint Cecilia’s is very supportive, we all work for the benefit of the residents and help one another,” she says.
We accept both North Yorkshire Council and private placements at this home. Our pricing in dependent upon an individuals needs, and would be confirmed after the completion of an assessment. To request an assessment, please submit an enquiry or call us on 01723 503111.
